Correct, unless it is chemically removed (aka battery acid). I've got the origional factory brochure on the galvanizing process they used back then. E-mail if you want a copy. Very interesting stuff.

I could probably help with the mirrors. They're probably the same as mine in operation (flag style) and I've had mine apart a few times.

Better get that work done by the time I get back from down south!:)

On the subject of galvanized corrosion, it doesn't need to be accident damage to have happened. Stone chips etc over the years and poor under arch cleaning can destroy any car.

Congrats on the purchase, so nice to see another old-style 944 owner out there - and gray too :)
