Question Broke my $#%! bolt on the C-Shaft cover

I cannot believe my luck.........We were working on the car today and noticed oil was leaking from the counter-shaft cover so I pulled the bolt out, cleaned it and put it back in. That was when my luck when from bad to worse. Before I could put any torque on it (it was 1/8" from the head of the bolt seating on the cover), the bolt broke off.

Now here is my problem. The bolt is the second set of bolts from the right side (rear) of the cover. I could remove it with an easy-out, but I will have shavings that could get inside the motor. The only other option is to remove the shaft cover. Do I have to remove the counter shaft belts before I take the cover off?

Right now I need two things: a lucy rabbit's foot and some advice. What do ya'll recommend???

If you put grease in the hole when you drill it for your easyout it will hold the shavings in and not let them get in your engine. If you decide to take the cover off, hold the shaft in place and don't let it pop out of the block. There will be no real tention on the belt so I think it may work for you. You might want to make a jig or bracket to hold the shaft in place while you work to get the bolt out Good Luck, just remember it could be worse?

I don't think the block material is ferrous, so there's still the chance you could get shavings - use grease and hope.
