HELP! trying to remove fuel rail and injectors

I am in the process of doing my belts and while I am doing them I figured it would be an excellent time to renew all the seals in the cam housing and the cam housing to head gasket. The problem is I am not sure how hard to pull on the fuel rail to get the injectors out. I have all the bolts removed from the rail, and the fuel supply and return lines are off. The rail wiggles back and forth but I don't want to pull on it hard enough to break the injectors. Any advice? are they usually a pain?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Well I got it out. How do you clean the injectors? Soak them in gas or kerosene? They are blackened quite a bit along with the hole they sit in.

Thanks.

The "blackening" is probably part of the seals that has melded with the hole. Carb cleaner on a q-tip works pretty good.

The injectors/rail is hard to pull out....seems like a bit too hard when the seals are old AND when you renew the seals it seems like you have to press "too hard" to seat them. Just keep it straight.

There is an excellent artical by AFjuvat in the tech section of pelican parts that goes over injector cleaning 101.

be sure to use atf as a lubricant on replacement, saves breaking them.

Thanks guys. I will read the article. The seals actually look good. They don't have any knicks or tears in them but I will replace then anyways. I just got the cam assembly off and on the bench. The gasket was totally shot but everything inside looks brand new.

Thnks again for your advice.

Be careful on the q-tip idea. I tried that and dropped one into the intake, ended up pulling it off and cleaning it. But if you are doing the seals, might as well clean the holes when the intake is off.

I just did mine yesterday (FISeals) and the new seals and hats did not look at all like the old ones so I double checked the part # several times and even cross referanced a few catalogs to get a pictire online and they are correct even though they look larger than the seals that came off runs like a champ now!
I also found that carb cleaner removes the black paint from the injecters as well - will need to protect them from rust somehow in the future?

I 2nd the injector seals looking wrong- I went so far as to have pelican send a 2nd set, thinking the one I got must be wrong. Turns out it is fine. See Pics here:

How a fool managedto fix a fuel leak

And I used carb cleaner and q-tips to clean the injector contact points (see my pics, they were quite dirty) and I too must recommend you be careful not to drop them in. I didn't, but it occurred to me that if you did, it would suck.

Why do I have insomnia? WHY!?!?!?

there is a 924s listed on ebay right now and the reason e is selling it is a bolt dropped into the intake! some great pics of what happens....Porsche : 924

Ahhrrrrhhhhhggg....

My 44 eats Q-tips for breakfast!

Sometimes you guys worry too much.

(I guess I worry too little sometimes)

BTW-
If you are that concerned just fill the hole with BB's until it is full so that the Q-tip cannot fall into the cylinder. *

BTWBTW-*Just kidding
