Yep, you can put a turbo in a 944. It won't fit in the glovebox so the best place is in the rear luggage compartment. Make sure you secure it or the trim gets damaged when moving.

Asking if you should replace that timing belt is like asking if you should re-use a condom that may have in hole in it with a hooker.

*sigh*

Ok, yes, it can be done.

You will spend a few thousand dollars doing it though

Sorry, we get asked this question no less than once per week

Dont listen to these people..

Im doing it.

And i really DONT care about the costs in the end.

Bottom line is..

I live in Canada. Im paying 3 CAD per year on insurance. If i had gotten the 944 Turbo, id be paying 6-8 depending on the company.

I dont have money like that to throw away on something which i dont really use..considering all i have is 3rd party liability..meaning if i I personally cause an accident..or i crash the car into a ditch..i dont get a DIME! So all im paying for is to keep those cops happy..so they dont give me a 5000$ ticket if im pulled over without insurance.

I looked into this more thoroughly..

My car 3900 Dollars - Good Frame, Good Body, Excellent Interiour, overall..4/5. Very solid car, but not fast enough, im sorry.

944 Turbo, it's a good car..but i cant find one under 13K Canadian..and the ONE that WAS 10K, the frame was terrible, and had rust on the rear quarter panel..disgusting condition of the car.

Now. There is a place near my house, that works with building porsche race cars. I called the manager, and got a pricequote for a 944 Turbo 2.5 Liter engine + Transmission. 5500 CAD.

So do the math..5500 + 3900 = 944 with 951 engine in it. Saving more than 6k per year on insurance.

I Already know that i will never get any of that money back, but quite frankly..i didnt buy my car so i could sell it. the 2.5T engine has 30K on it, and tranny 12K.

Im doing this swap in probably 2 months.

It CAN be done, but the problem is that no one looks around enough for some good prices and they give up cause they cant find stuff. Whatever.

Youre welcome man. Dont lose hope..

You live in New York..there are a ton of places that can work on your car if youre not cool with doing it yourself..and some of them are ok priced.

My engine and transmission, and necessary aftermarket components all together will cost me about what a 944 turbo would, but as i said..turbos are pretty rare here..and i cant find one in a good condition like my car is.

So that's why im doing this..well that and the insurance thing..

Dont lose hope just because a few of these people are warning you not to do it..

Remember, it's your car and your money :P
