Rebuilding - input needed
Hi all,
I am starting my project and would like to list everything I want to do, and get feedback on what order (if any) these things should be done in, pitfalls, etc. So last September I bought my car: 1987 944 na Guards Red with the tan cloth interior with te repeating "Porsche" script running through it. I was told the P.O. had let the timing belt go and the top end was rebuilt about 12K miles ago. Apparently this job was done shoddily because the valve guides are letting oil past at higher RPM, which is kind of cool because it is like a "Spyhunter" smoke screen, but still not good. The engine also has the normal leaks at the balance shaft etc, & the power steering rack is leaking. The clearcoat is coming off of the paint. The finishing touch is that I HAVE RUST!! Yes apparently the P.O. was a jackass (pun intended) & tried to jack it up in the wrong places. For all of this, I love the car & expect to be driving it in 2014 & beyond. Today I got a beat up Civic to replace my beat up 944 as a daily driver, & I am going to redo the Porsche. THESE ARE MY PLANS, I WOULD LIKE OPINIONS AND IDEAS, ESPECIALLY IF I AM MISSING SOMETHING.

Sounds really sweet, You should have then do some mods to the engine when its out, up the compression, mild head work/port and polish, lighten and balance the lower rotating assembley, 3 angle valve job. You should upgrade the calipers to the big red kit, Have you thought about looking into a MAF kit?? ANyway good luck.

1. I am hesitant to do any engine performance mods, as this car will again be my daily driver; reliability/driveability is a key issue.
2. I cannot find Big Reds for my 944na. Everything I find is for the Turbo. I am getting the calipers powder coated red after rebuild. 3. I am keeping the stock air box. All of my research indicates that, for the most part, the stock airbox is the way to go on the 944na. Thanks GHEN
