More alarm stuff

Does anyone know where I can get my factory alarm restored to working condition? Is ths something a regular alarm shop should be able to do, or am I inviting trouble?

When I say restored I mean getting the original equipment back to working order as opposed to getting something aftermarket.

Sorry, I forget sometimes the is the World Wide Web :-) My 944 is US spec.

Thanks/Cheers

HI GHEN,

cheers,
in that case, it's prolly not cost effective.

you are better using a tried and tested aftermarket one "INSTALLED" by a proffesional

This all depends on what is missing/hacked/deatroyed.

How about giving us some more information? do you have the key switch, alarm horn, and alarm module?

The lock cylinder is there, but won't turn. I don't know where to look for the alarm module & horn.

I think I remember reading the alarm module is on the passenger side under the dash in a silver colored box, but I am not sure.

I'll do a search and reply, but if someone wants to shout out where they are feel free.

1. No silver colored box that I could see.
2. I did see something that looked like it might be an alaarm horn, brass, about 2" in diameter. Part # on it is 944 606 151 00

The search continues.

That's the altitude compensation switch for the DME. You're looking for a rectangular black box, about 1"x 2 1/2" x 4" or so. Try looking in the passenger side foot well under the carpet where the DME is.

I swear I have never been this stupid before. After I thought about it I realized that would be a pretty inefficient place to mount an alarm horn.

Having looked again I believe I have the alarm module, and I do have the lock cylinder.

I think I am going to remove the lock and see if I can get a locksmith to look it over for me.

Is there any way to check the alarm system's operation without turning the key?

Not really.

However, if the alarm in functioning properly, the engine should start normally (no fancy stuff, just turn the key) once you have the key switch disconnected.

If the car still acts up, then the problem lies elsewhere.

BTW: When you are looking at the key switch, is the key slot verticle or horizontal?

The key slot is vertical. Right now the car starts fine, so the one saving grace is that it is (apparently) frozen in the "off" position.

When I snake my hand up through the door jamb, I can feel the two wires that attach to the back of the lock cylinder. I am hesitant to remove them, as I don't want to place the car into a no start mode.

Maybe just bringing it to a locksmith, and having him work on it without removing it is best?
