Can you get CV joint bolts at hardware store??
Just wondering if I can go to the local Home Depot and buy the bolts for the cv joints. I think they are 8x50 mm 12 points. Are they special in any way , like they are hardedned steel ?

very very doubtful. You could try a specialty bolt and screw store. I have not had much luck with traditional hardware stores and metric at all. Especially the sizes on out cars.

I changed mine over to, grade 8, 6point socket head bolts. Works fine.

Should replace with German product. You can also get these at VW and Audi shops and dealers.
Interesting that the originals were six point socket heads. Must have changed to the 12 points sometime in the late 80's.

The 12 point heads seem to strip out alot easier. Thats my only complaint with them.

I agree on the stripping out. Think you can still get the six points at a decent VW racing shop.

You can change to 6 point allen key bolts instead since they are grade 12.9. As strong and less likely to strip. More easily available.
