Angry What A Terrible Way To Start The Weekend

Finally got my car back from Intersport today, after them "supposedly" working on it for the last three days.
On the way hope it was running a bit hot, the temperature guage was showing almost boiling.
When I parked I saw a river of coolant come out from under the car. After not having the car for three days, having been charged double for timing belt/water pump and all seals....I end up with this crap right before the long weekend.!!!! could it get worse???

Yes... they could have put in your service agreement no refunds or warranty on service...

This is a good reason we owners do most of our own (and some others) repairs.

So true.

Those that knew these cars in the 80's have moved on or are now posting on this site....

Just took the floor pan off and looked where the leak was....NUMBNUTS mechanic routed one of the radiator hoses wrong. it got jammed right between the airbox and the alternator pulley, and the belt pulley sliced a hole right through the hose!!!!!! WHAT A JOKE!!!!
I called the Intersport's owner's cell phone right on the spot....he tried to do another lube job on me saying "get a tow truck.......tow it to my shop.." I'll have the mechanic take a look at it on Tuesday...probably not caused by us thou....WHAT A JOKE...I told him to "go f**k himself, and he'll hear from my lawer first thing Tuesday morning!!! now I'm off to the store to get a hose!!! from now on the only person who's gonna work on this car is me!

As it should be, Siberian. Sorry you had to experience that. The three L's of Porsche: Live, Learn, Litigate.

I'm not ususally the one calling off the lawyers, but let me tell you a short story that might help.

Similar timing, wanted to get my car back from my mechs prior to a long weekend. I use both of my cars to commute between Las Vegas and Los Angeles. That's 330 miles of open desert, not much help out there. Same mechs for 5 years. Never a prob with them... except, like you and me, they are human.

They stayed late on friday to finish a belt (all of them) change for me. Had lots of stuff open on the front of the engine, as you know. While running the engine to bleed the cooling system after finishing, the mech noticed that the upper rad hose was chafing on the top of the radiator where it runs across the top of the radiator. There was a bar right above it to secure it to, so he did with cable ties. Perfect, no more chafe.

4 hours later, perfect high speed cross of the Mojave Desert, on the outskirts of Los Angeles, it was getting dark, and I turned on the headlights. You guessed it, it was the bar that connects the headlight buckets to raise them. It (thankfully) only pinched the flow off, and the heat rise was noticed on the guage. I shut off, and coasted to the side of the road. Shut off everything, and opened the hood. Saw nothing wrong. Started right up, normal temps. Hmmm. Started driving again, of course, as soon as lights back on, got hot. Same routine again.

Finally ran engine on side of road with lights on, saw the problem, cut the ties and resumed my drive.

After I stopped laughing, I got lots of mileage out of that one with 'the guys'.

Granted, no damage done, so I was lucky. But we are all human, and even more so on a friday afternoon right before a long weekend.

Michael.

Read my previous post "back from the shop with a hefty estimate" If this place was decent I wouldn't have even called them back, just changed the radiator hose myself. They held the car for 3 days for a simple timing belt job, originally quoting 1200 ended up paying upwards 3K....

I had not read the previous post.

Just the magnitude of the miss on the estimate would have raised a red flag. It took me a couple of those to eventually find the shop I now use.

Siberian: Glad it was an easy fix......Make sure you bleed the cooling system as well.

Sing Pilot:

I did a similar number on a MAF....

It was a long evening swapping out a turbo........I was getting tired just wanted to call it a day. So I finished plugging the maf in and the wires were loose.....

So I figured I would tie-wrap the wires.........

and you guessed it to the bar for the lights. LOLOL

Next day.... fire the car up. Ran great......decided to pop the lights. The car shuts down.... lights had ripped the harness right out..............

Another night soldering the harness... hehehe.

Yes we are all human.

I did the same thing when doing some radiator work on my car ...I put the hose on the wrong way(both sides look the same but one is correct and one isnt) and it got cut open by the alt belt. So i duct taped it up and drove it to napa and got a new one ..heh. On our cars there is a little hose clamp thingy that pulls the hose away from the alt fan and belt... most mechanics neglect it and dont put it back on. For 3k I would expect expert mechanics not some dimwitted, hose lacerating bum****s. Maybe they will give you a decent reach around next time you go back

The exact same thing happened to me TODAY
Only, I was the one at fault.

I had been switching around AFMs and filters etc... well, I had unhooded Zip-Tie from radiator hose when I had the cone filter on.
Well, when I put stock setup back on, the radiator hose came in contact with the alternator pulley the same way, luckily I found out in a parking lot.
Well, I came home (2-blocks) and fixed it an applied duct tape (temp fix).

I just got back from parts store 2 minutes ago..

Anyway.
AutoZone-no-have
Kragen - Order for $6
Napa - InStock for $15

Pelican - $17 plus shipping.

So I got the Napa, just waiting for it to cool off.

Don
