probably have to take the instrument cluster out to unscrew it from the speedo head, not sure about the other end.

Have to pull the instruments unless you have really small hands and arms.
Still with the instruments out it's easier. After you pull it out of the left front spindle tie a string to it then pull it back through the fire wall. Tie the string to the new cable and pull it through the fire wall.

If not there; you pull the steering wheel and the plastic covers on the steering column switches, remove the screws in the top of the housing and pull it out.

When you install the new cable, you 'll want to screw the instrument cluster end on first, then the other end. Otherwise, you're aligning the cable and screwing it on blind, with your hand behind the instrument cluster.
Haynes manual is actually somewhat decent for this job, BTW.

I managed to pop out the left gauge by reaching from under the dash. I unscrewed the speedo nut, used the hole to pop out the speedo, and removed the MPG sender connector. Don"t slam the speedo out or you will break the PC board on the back of the speedo.
Don't forget the string trick as SoCal mentioned. Good luck.

I was going to reply here and try to help, but SoCal did a good job. Just take your time and you should be fine, it's not hard.
