2.8 conversion

Hey guys I have a extra 85.5 944 enigne sitting around and I was thinking about slowly building a race motor with it. Does anyone know what is need to do a 2.8L conversion?? Any good links?? any ideas??

Make sure you read the rules for whatever race class you want to run BEFORE building the engine.

Im not to worried about the racing class, with the mods I have now Im already in the GT class

PH 2.8L Kit: New 968 longer stroke crankshaft, 4 custom forged lightweight connecting rods (2lb lighter than OEM), lightweight custom 2.8 L Mahle 8.5:1 pistons & rings & wrist pins

Base Kit = Call
+ the following upgrades:
Customize the 3.0L crankshaft: cross drill rod journals, knife-edge & remove 8 lb., balance
Precision bore cylinder block to assure perfect piston-to-wall clearance (1st oversize bore)
Complete engine gasket set, with Wide Fire Ring head gasket and new head nuts & washers
Complete engine bearings: racing mains, connecting rods, balance shafts & oil pump sleeve
“O” Ringed cylinder head, valve job, new guides, valve springs, ported & polished (exchange)
8x new hydraulic lifters - must be replaced if not done recently, or on engines over 75k mi.
New timing belts, tensioners & rollers kit
New 3.0L water pump
New oil pressure relief valve & sending unit
Modify the oil pan & pick up tube to help prevent oil starvation to rod bearings (exchange)
All new water & vacuum hoses
3 Bar fuel pressure regulator
Clean, pressure flow & balance your OEM fuel injectors

I wonder what's involved in putting in the 968/3.0 water pump.

I'll look up to see how much you need to bore the cyls.

Yea It looks like a nice package, but I really dont want a CR as low as 8.5 to 1, Im thinking like 10.5 or 11.5 to 1, Its gonna be a NA so I need the CR for more HP

Alright, did some math.

924S = 2.5ltr, 100b*79s
2.8 = 100b*88s
968 = 3.0ltr, 104b*88s

Since you have to overbore the cyls by 2mm (deep scratching you said), you are going to have a 2.9ltr engine using 88mm crank. You could have a 2.7 (2656cc) if you overbore to 103.5 w/ the stock crank. Do the work right and you can set compression up to 13:1.

Need more compression? shave the head back down. The 8.5 specs are on the idea you're turboing the motor.
