Electrical Questions

I just bought an '84 944 last weekend. Seems to be in great condition, but there are a couple things that I need/want to do to it before it become my daily driver. The issue that I am concerned about is this:

The oil sensor light in the gauge cluster, and the brake sensors on the console, are lighted. They flicker on and off, but stay on. The flickering seems to be affected by other things such as if I hit a small bump or something like that. The brakes are relatively new and the oil and sensor is said to have checked out fine at the dealership before I bought it. I was thinking that since these are both warning lights it may be possible that they are on the same circuit, and I may need to replace a fuse or something like that. Has anyone ever experienced something like this? Please advise.

Also, I have been getting insurance quotes. Anyone have any tips, or good experience with specific companies?
I called Nationwide insurance company and the lady asked me what kind of car I had. I responded with "A 1984 Porsche - and she interrupted abruptly with a Whooo Hooo" this scared me a bit. Some companies seem to want to charge me 1200/6months while others are 500-600/6months. I have a clean record. Is this comparable?

Any comments are greatly appreciated

The warning lights may be a short, or a faulty ground...just a guess because they are affected by bumps, etc...

I have State Farm insurance with a clean record living in center city. I pay roughly $1400 a year.

Check the connection on the parking brake handle/lever, that might be the source for your problem(s). One single connection, easy fix.

Brandon,

Congrats on the car! Give us some more info. I remember you were on the board a week or two ago looking for a ride...glad to hear you found one.

Yes, thanks.

I ended up purchasing an 84 N/A. 126k miles but have had no trouble at all. Ended up traveling to michigan (from NC) to get the one I wanted. It was a long trip back. But it ran fine.

I think the color is Gemini Silver.
Got it insured and registered today, and am loving every minute in it.

I hope to get some pictures of it soon.

Look at the relays. Mine had the same result when I replaced all the relays according to the owners manual. The owners manual was wrong as yours will be too. By using the trial and error method I was able to match the relays to how they should have been and not at all like the owners manual except for the biggies (fuel pump)(A/C) etc..

The ones wrong in the owners manual if I remeber right were mainly the flasher, and minor accessories.

Check the placement of the relays according to the owners manual and see if you have a match. If you do PM me and I will give ya my number and tell you which one goes where.

Rick

Also found that when I steer right, the warning lights temporarily go off. Not sure why that would be happening. but I still am not positive why they are flickering in the first place. I don't think I know enough about the car's electrical system.
