Hi all,
My problem now (Oh, how I love my car!) Is that the oil warning and brake warning lights are coming on. My revs are set to about 950 but sometimes the lamps flicker. If I rev the engine the lights go out. I think it's an intermmitent electrical fault somewhere. Does anybody know how these lamps are driven? Is it the Electronic Ignition Unit? Regards Misty

what does the oil PSI read? Does it fluctuate? I would assume it's an intermittent ignition failure...check all grounds.

At idle, about 1-2. It doesn't fluctuate?

Why the questionmark? You don't know if it fluctuates? If the guage bounces erradicly (sp?) then a bad ground or a serious engine problem would be your likely choices.

The oil pressure raises and lowers depending on revs - that's the reason for ?
Engine is fine, I'm probably thinking more electrical. Do you know what drives these two warning lamps? I know they are supposed to come on when engine is very low revs (as if you are going to stall the engine. Regards Misty

Could it be something to do with the fairy lights in your dash? (sorry)

I emailed a buddy a link to the superbrightled.com site. He told me he tried to install led lights in his Mazda a while back. They ended up screwing up the relay and cause all sorts of electrical issues. A trip to the shop and $1200 later, he was back where he started before the led lights.

When your oil pressure drops to this range at idle, these lights are supposed to come on. If your oil pressure is fine at cruise rpm then don't sweat it. How long has it been since you changed your oil? Did you use a different weight oil?

Flangermog: I was thinking that! but it now seems to have righted itself.
Tim: I used some valve lifter cleaner recently, but I can't understand why the brake warning light is coming on too?

I would suspect that it is an issue with the new lights. That said, check all of the grounds and electrical connectiions on the intsrument cluster.
Which Brake Warning light is on? AFJuvat

The main one for the brake servo (Fluid level) Not the handbrake.
It's just annoying more than anything. Cheers Phil Thanks for reply to the pressure cap question. Much obliged
