Porsche Crest Some time you have to laugh

Well its official, after just 5 months of ownership my 944 was brutally rear ended suffering from $10,750 worth of damage. The car is insured for $12000, and I have a buyer interested in my car for a parts car.

What does a parts car go for these days? 169,000Km, as perfect as a 18 year old interior can get (no dash cracks) good engine.

Im okay and the car took the hit like a champ.

The search for a 951 begins!

that sucks but at least you're going to be able to get out of it without too much of a $$ hit... if the guy is buying it for parts and your car is 85.5 or newer can you pass me on to him? I have been looking for another dash for a late 944...

ouch! I'm sorry, man...

... hey, look at it this way, with the money made off parts ALONE you might be able to afford a 951.

Is your interior black? If so will you sell me the center console and door panels?

Insurance companies are funny sometimes...doesn't really look like 10k worth of damage. Aside from paint, that could be repaired in less than a thousand.

Either way, sorry for you loss!

My mechanic is the one who "assessed" the 10,000 worth of damage.

The rear trunk floor is buckled, the exhaust from the headers back is dragging and the rear hatch wont open. The engine also sounds really bad so I think the exhaust may have pushed the engine in a strange way. The biggest concern i had was the rear suspension, I told my mechanic that if it was bent or damaged in any way I didnt want the car. Not much sence in having an Ill handling porsche with a salvage title.

Personally I would rather get a new undamaged car than fix this one. The biggest problem I will have now is finding one as nice. The insurance company is sending a check for 12,000 so I will probably get an S or a 951.

Typical Toronto traffic on the 401 consists of taveling at 120+ km/h promptly followed by HEAVY braking for the traffic stopped ahead. I now know that the 944 has fantastic brakes, unfortunatly I cant say the same for the GrandPrix.

Would you be so placid about the situation if you were driving a Carerra GT when they attempted to stop in your rear bumper? I just wonder...

Anybody who rear-ends a Carerra GT should get the death penalty.

I would believe the $10k in damages. If your hatch floor is buckled, you're up the creek. Definately frame damage.

Funny how fast the vulchers descended on this one.

Good to hear you're okay. Looks like a pretty hard hit, should have your back checked out. Don't want that coming back to haunt you.

Damn Grand Prix drivers!
While I'm at it, damn Ontario drivers!
All the ones that come out here are the worst drivers I've ever seen =)

I was hit by a grand am as well a few years ago. I think I will avoid any "grand" car in the future. BTW when I was hit I mean "I" was hit. Leg broken in two places.

I am a bit placid about the situation, what are you supposed to do, $hit happens. The guy in the Grand Prix had his 3 DAY old baby in the car, they were coming back from the hospital. That quickly put things in perspective. Luckily everyone was perfectly fine.
