Laugh at me. Go ahead, it's OK.
All right, well I've been *****ing about the pathetic HVAC system in my 944 ever since I got it... anyway... I'm usually a windows down kind of guy so I never thought much of it, just assumed that the engineers in the Black Forest were like me. Today however it was hot enough to turn on the A/C. As usual, I got a pathetic weak dribble of air from the dash vents. In frustration I started playing with the sliders on the dash. I discovered that when I had the upper slider in the *left* position, I suddenly got decent airflow from the dash. (insert scooby-doo-esque inquisitive noise here.) Crank fan to "3." Suddenly, it's frosty!
so of course I came home and read the owners manual. Duh! that's how it's SUPPOSED to work. "up arrow" means WINDSHIELD not DASH VENTS. yes, I've been driving this car every day for three months, except for the few days I've driven the Stude (with an even more cryptic HVAC system...) I'm officially a moron. Laugh at will. nate (I still like driving with the windows down.)

It took me getting a copy of the owners manual to figure out the air system as well.
I knew how to make it blow cold but sit, roll over and beg escaped me. fortunately it never learned to play dead.....

I have no owners manuel...I also have no clue how the system works. Right now, it blows from the dash vents when I turn the fan on. I'm afraid to mess with it.

I still haven't figured out the need for the two separate controls for the a/c and the rest of the vent system. Why not save space on the dash and integrate the two?

anytime.. i've had my 944 about 3 weeks now, so alot of this is brand new to me.
If you hit this directory: http://www.livewirevoodoo.com/944/ i've got the workshop manuals and parts catalogue posted too. For those a right-click / save-as should do the trick. |

actually it all makes sense to me now, maybe it's my German blood, I just had to RTFM first
Woulda been nice if they'd put some text on the ^%$@# thing though, but I guess they are sold in too many countries to make that practical... nate
