I can't tell if thats a question or a statement so I'm gonna go ahead and say it probably won't be that marked of a difference. I bet it helps the butt dyno though.

welcome back alina..
agreed... if it's performance you want, it definitely isn't the best bang for your buck.

Well, alina, it will make your car rev faster. The problem with this is that first gear in a 944NA is geared WAYYYY too short to get any kind of accelleration out of it in the first place, so now you're gonna have a first gear that's pretty much useless, and most of your accel will occur in 2nd... I can't see the car being any faster off the line. You might get some corner-to-corner accelleration in 3rd/4th, however...

I don't see it doing really anything. The engine needs to turn a crankshaft, associated pulleys, a transmission and axles, torque tube and wheels. It also has the load of a 2,500-pound (or more) car on it. The effect of shaving a couple ounces off a flywheel is negligible.
As has been said though, with no load on the engine (clutch in or in neutral) it will raise/drop revs more quickly due to less rotational mass (and less effect of inertia). So heel-toe throttle "blips" might end up being more effective, though I find you can get the same result by varying driving technique and pushing the pedal down a little harder and a little earlier. For the cost and effort of such a thing, there are WAY better places to spend your money. I also wonder about the implications of deleting mass from a flywheel which helps to dampen out power stroke "pulses" from the engine. The balance shafts are solely intended to counter second-order harmonics inherent to four-cylinder engines, much as a harmonic dampener would. They are not intended to dampen out power stroke pulses - that's what the flywheel is for. I can't help but think that it would be detrimental to engine life over long term to remove mass from this device, but for a seldom-run race engine it is probably okay. Whatever thrills ya'.

Light flywheels have plusses and minuses. The Porsche factory engineers are pretty fanatical about weight. The factory flywheel was considered to be the best compromise between performance, and ease of driving.
That being said, my 911 has a very light flywheel, and I love it. Every last little bit helps when autocrossing. But everything I've done to the car makes it less friendly to use as a street car. Stiff suspension- Rides hard Short gears-High RPMs on the highway, uses more gas Stripped interior-Noisy Racing seats, 5-point harnesses- Can't shift positions on a long drive Light flywheel- Easy to kill the engine, need to blip the throttle even on upshifts. But I made the car the way I want it. I wouldn't change a thing. |

![]() also, for the record: i have a fidanza. i have no idea what difference it makes for accelleration, as i've only experienced it in my turbo from the day i bought the car. that said, it does seem to take a bit more finesse shifting, especially from a stop.
