Question Wiring problem

Hi,

Can a 924 (1983ish) owner please advise me on where the red/black stripe wire in the 4 way connector goes to? One side is attached to the thicker red/black stripe but I think the other end goes back into the wiring loom inside the car. This 4 way connector block is at the back of the engine at the top near the battery.
I have had to cut this wire because it was shorting out somewhere and my starter would not turn, it was causing a high current surge. I beleive this wire might have something to do with the cold start?

Regards
Misty

Just thinking ?
what made you think that that was cuasing the problem,
and why you cut that particular wire ?

Did you trace it at all ?

Does the connector look proper Porsche, or has it been stuck in there as an afterthought by someone.

Thinking about 44's, I can't see a scenario, where a cold start valve etc, would stop a startermotor from turning.

The starter motor, gets its feed from the solonoid, via the ignition switch, straight from the battery. with possibly some engine management in there somewhere.

I'm wondering if someone has put an alarm in there and that is how the ignition is immbolised ?

Is there an alarm ? was there an alarm.

The alarm theory is the only thing I can think of which makes any sense at present.

Will post this reply to you on Pelican as well

Sorry I couldnt be more forthcoming !
regards

Ade

I parked car, came back, tried to start it but the starter would not turn. I noticed the volt reading dropped considerably. So I got it push started. It only shorts out when the ignition is in the start position. It is an original connector (don't know whether it's Porsche or not). When I got car home I had a look. When I try to start it, that wire gets hot, so I cut it. The car still starts and runs fine without it, so I'm thinking it must have something to do with the cold start. The cold start also get's it's power from the ignition via the thermotime switch. I can't figure it out!

I'd try the ignition switch. These cars are notorious for this kind of problem as the switches go out often. I've heard there are two different styles of switch, white and black. White are the easiest to source but the black is supposed to be better. I had the same problem and turned out to be the switch. That's the cheapest part also, out of the ones you've spoke of.
