How do I check for worn control arms?
I'm looking at a 944 S2 in a remote location and I need to perform a "self diagnosis" of the control arms (and anything else a good PPI would cover).
How can I tell if they are going bad? The car has 64k miles and there is a slight vibration on taking off that goes away rather quickly. I'm guessing it is motor mounts. Is there anything else that could cause this vibration that is more serious? What else should I check for if I do the PPI myself? David |

Look to see if the boots are cracked or torn. Drive the car over a set railroad tracks, or a bumpy road. If you here any knocks or clunks It's most likely a ball joint . Also check the sway bar bushings on the pass side to see if there oil soaked and rotted. If you can't fit your hand between the cross member and the engine oil pan, the motor mounts are shot. Good Luck

Motor mount vibration would occur with the car stationary and at low rpm.
