yay for me! motor is out!... now help me put the new one in
hey I finally got the motor out of the 86 944 and a motor from an 88 is on the way... question though... I went to the local porche repair place (they said they wouldn't do it) and they told me that I would need all new wiring because of the difference in compression.... as far as I understood I would only need a new DME? (by the way, looking to trade an 86 DME with a performance chip for an 88 dme) please give me any input and let me know if anyone has put an 88 into an older body? thanks..

IIRC, you do NOT need to switch wiring harnesses. The only real difference is the chip inside the DME, I believe they changed the # of pins in 88, so you can't swap the 88 chip into your DME, but you can just change the entire thing.

thats a relief.... he had me worried, not that putting the engine in is going to be an easy task... but hopefully... I plan on driving this car to L.A. in december.... how much would my DME with the performance chip be worth? how much would an 88 DME cost me? hopefully about the same.. let me know thanks everyone

while you are waiting to find a 88 DME, your 86 DME should work.
you may just need to run high octane gas to avoid 'pinging'
