Is there an upgraded center cassette door hinge?

For the second time in abot three years, my center console door hinge tore. I always wondered why Porsche used such cheap plastic for this part and am wondering if there is any "upgraded" version out there? The original replacement is only about $25 but it will eventually break soon enough.

Anyone care to chime in here?

A PO simply used a piece of nylon webbing, and ran the screws through it. It isn't as solid as a hinge would be, but much more durable. I haven't been inclined to use the good hinge from my parts car.

I'm about to fix mine. I plan on epoxying some piano hinge in, or cutting out a little bit of the frame, and screwing it in.
I'll let you guys know how it works when I get around to it.
Might need a small about of metal bending on the bottom part, but I have a heavy-duty sheet metal brake, so no problem.

Similar to what I did.. Mine hinge came broke from the PO. I used a strip of black leather from a coat i was throwing away. Matches the console color well enough, to the untrained eye it doesnt look a bit out of place.

Whoa. Those are some cool home brew ideas that I would have never thought of. But I guess what I'm trying to ask is if anyone here ever saw a metal-hinged (or sturdier) aftermarket part(?) Maybe Performance Products or something like that?
