				Just asking.. A 3.0L or a 16V in a 944NA?
			 
			Hi, guys. Im used to swapping engines in cars as i did it twice on my 914. Replaced the stock 4-cyl with a 2.2-six and a 2.7-six later. Now how hard/pricey would that be to fit a 3.0L-four from an S2 in a 1987 944NA? I understand that swapping for a 944S 16V isnt worth it. Any clue issue? Engine mounts? Anything else? Thanks!

			Some of it bolts up a little differently - you would have an easier time if you had the crossbar and the like from the 3.0 engine You will need the harness and DME from the 3.0 to go with the engine as well. AFJuvat

			It can certainly be done, there are probably 4 currently running conversions on another board I frequent far more often.  You are going to spend roughly 4-5K on the conversion depending on how much you pay for the parts and how much you can do yourself.  Pretty straighforward conversion.  Wiring can be a mother as the harnesses are not the same.

 That's the point. Probably due to low production numbers and more parts, the 16v heads command one heck of a premium these days. But if you're still going to go that route, you mind as well go the extra step and drop a 968 motor in. This was done in Excellence magazine a year or two ago.

			It isnt uncommon to see the 968 engines complete with harness go for 3K.  When the topic comes up I usually recommend against because, as noted, you are better off just to sell and buy an S2. It can be done cheaper if you can source the parts and are very proficient with a wrench. Panzer - the amount the head brings depends entirely on its condition. Those 16 valves are not cheap, if they are damaged.

			Yep, I hang out there too.  What is funny is that a good head can cost as much as 1/2 of the complete engine.  A good crank can cost as much as 1/2 of the complete engine....soooo, a complete motor for 3K could be considered a "steal."  Scary, no?
