ok, two weeks ago 83 944 auto stalled in parking lot. would not re-start.
waited 4 hours, it started but was sputtering. I raced the engine a few times but would not smooth out. It would not idle on its own. After 10 mins. of rough idle it smelled as if wires were burning. The car was towed. Under the converter area small puddle of very thick oil. I replaced the converter, and O2 unit. The car starts, drives for about 10 min. and dies. still getting a smell of burning wires. ANY CLUES????????? |

Bad news....
Go a compression and a leakdown test.
Sounds like hte cat clogged up, if it clogged bad enough, it will fry the head. AFJuvat

what is the electrical burning smell, it does not seem to be coming from the engine area, rather the fire wall under and towards rear of engine.

Cat: Catalytic Converter.
Go to an auto parts store and buy a compression tester. Follow the instructions on the package. Post the numbers you get here. AFJuvat

compression results:
1 crank, cyl. 1-3 read 155psi, cyl 4 reads 150psi. We did this three times with same results. Vik |
