removing dash need help
 

Hey people-

I've spent the morning removing the dash in my early according to the clarks garage procedure, and I'm at the last step and stuck! I'm trying to remove the a-pillar trim, and i got all the screws out but it seems stuck right at the top near the roof. There wasn't a screw there on either side, but it seemed like there should have been. Anyway, it feels like I'm using WAY too much force to get that one section off. Could it be glued or something? Should I just pry away?

Keep digging around for the screw. Its there, believe me. Its just not going into the A-pillar bushing straight, as the rest were. I've found this true with about 4or 5 I've done so far. The screw head is generally located just above the bushing insert, and goes almost straight up to the roof.

Thank God for this thread! :) I screwed around for almost an hour before taking a break and searching the forum. This little tidbit should REALLY be included in the directions as to how to take out the dash. Those little buggers were there, just hidden and I looked for them for a while. I thought the same thing "Well there must not be any up there"

I ended up trashing an A pillar cause sure enough... one was there.

If you hold your screwdriver straight up (perpendicular to ground) I'm sure you'll find it. It's a tricky bugger!

Oh guys, I got them both in about 30 seconds once I understood that they were there and hidden. Tricky little blighters. The thing that threw me was that There was a hole without a screw. I (like a dummy) thought that there was a screw missing. Luckily I didn't just yank on the pillar in frustration. Hope you guys don't mind me resurrecting an ancient thread, but, I was just so relieved to find out that there was a way to do it. I was really stressing it. I gave up smoking a few days ago and working on my baby is the closest thing I get to stress relief. (sad isn't it?)

Dash is out and sitting in my living room along with the rear hatch, Driver seat and alternator, all which are projects FINALLY being addressed. I had to take out the dash to do the heater core. I know, I know, some people say that you can do the core with the dash on. I am telling you for real that on an 87 924S with AC this is just not possible. The dash has to come out. There is no way to get the heater core out on this puppy from the side unless you relocate the AC component and blower, which is NOT happening. Besides, there is a lot of icky dust in there and I have allergies. Seriously, it is really nasty in there. I also have to get my blasted speedo cable attached in the hopes it will just work. Lord only knows why the PO disconnected it Lastly the deed is done. The dash is out.

I am FINALLY getting a look at all the wiring. It ain't pretty. there are several red wires poorly spliced into the hazard light switch and some odd switches that seem to disable the brake lights among other bizzare features (WTF?)

While it is out I am going to try and repair the cracks. They really don't bother me. But since the dash is out I am going to try the bumper epoxy and finish spray method. Any advice is of course appreciated.

I think there are 3 screws? I just looked at my extra one, and there are 3 screw holes, but the top one was not in the hole. It was about a 1/4 inch closer to the windsheild screwed into the metal. I remeber they were a bugger to get to also.

Yeah, ditto the thoughts here. Its at a very odd angle and cannot be easily seen though the pillar hole. As was said, the screw driver points almost straight up to get to the screw. I'm thinking about taking my pillars off to replace them with better looking ones I picked up but have procrastinated months because of my memory of the top screw!!
