question about the starter
is it possible or likely that the teeth on the gear comming from the starter break or grind off before the starter dies?
reason im asking is that whenever i start my car i get a god awful noise from the starter that sounds like grinding with slipping.

It can happen but its more likely the flywheel ring gear teeth, Pull the starter and check both

No, I think but Im not sure that you can remove the gear and replace it, But again Im not sure. But check before you do anything
