Steering Wheel Extender?

I was reading recently that the Porsche 944/924/924s had a steering wheel hub extender as an option to move the steering wheel closer to the driver.

Does anyone know where one might find this? My wife keep complaining the stock steering wheel is too far away and hit her knees.

Thanks,
Rightrev.

i have a steering wheel with the extension on it, but it'll need to be recovered. i can check whether or not you can put it on your wheel without any additional modifications. please list the year of your car, the wheel is from an 85.5, and that model and later had the turn signal switcheroo clicky thingy on the other side, so if you have an early car you'll have to swap horn ring thingies.

need some more info!

More Details

My car is a 1987 924s. It has the three spoke stering wheel, and no cruse control.

No problem calling tecnical parts "thingiees." I often call things "hoolie" and "weasel" when I can't rember the name.

If you swap to a Momo wheel, spacers are available. In fact, I used to have one laying around but I think I sold it.

Yes, it's option 018 - Sport Steering Wheel with Elevated Hub. My 951 came with it and I love it.

I had 3 944's before this one and I always thought the wheel was too far forward. Then I got this one and it feels just right. It puts the wheel closer to you where you have more control, plus it moves your hands away from the stalks so when autocrosing you don't end up with your wipers & blinkers going.

I have since gone to a 930s wheel, but I transferred the hub from the original 4-spoke.

If you can wait, I'm sure one will eventualy turn up here, Rennlist, Ebay, etc.

So I'm not the only one who hits the damn wipers when making some fast turns.

I have a Grant GT wheel, and it's even farther forward than the stock one. The problem I have, is to get a comfortable distance to the steering wheel puts the pedals far too close. I hope there is some generic hub extender.

Grant sells an extender for their wheels for around 30 bucks, local parts places can order them for you.

Really.... Most fascinating.
I actually went to a local retailer who sells grant wheels, and they told me that such a thing didn't exist for my wheel.
Is it possible they are only available for some wheels? I would really like to bring it out an inch or two.

Yep there's a "Euro Installation kit. Designed to fit popular European cars. Kit is finished in matte black. Die cast hubs, mounting hardware and step-by-step instructions included. The kit has Grant's five-hole mounting pattern and can ONLY be used to install Grant Signature series steering wheels." Also there's a "2 inch Extension kit. Installs between Grant installation kit and steering wheel to allow for additional clearance. Black rubber styling sleeve in matte black finish, inner collar and Grade 5 hardware for extra strength, ruggedness and durability." This is what I bought for my Grant Challenger steering wheel, since the stock had a fairly long neck, and now it's an effort to miss the wipers or turn signal stalks.
