Replacing alternator
 
I was wondering if the 115 amp alternator used in 85/2 and later 944's would fit directly in a 85/1 944? Are the mounting brackets the same in both years?

No, as I remember it, they are different, as is the AC compressor and mount also. But I think it might be usable if you also change the large mount bracket with it, but then I'm not sure if you'll get the AC to mount back up.

Pulley is different too. Has an extra V to it making six total. So you have to either change the pulley on the alternator to the five groove of change the pulleies on the engine and on the AC compressor to the six grooves.
