Wierd carfax..

So I'm looking at buying a 951... the carfax says 2 owners, the original(no data for him/her) and another in 1991 in New York...

I know the guy that owns it now has only owned it since 2001 or 2002.. and I know he has current NH plates, but the carfax doesn't have any registration/title info for NH at all... car has 127,000 miles on it, but since this is from 91, it lists 33,000.

Is it that carfax just sucks or is the guy trying to sell it trying to **** me?

Hard to tell.

Check the vin on the windshield, the kardex sticker in the rear trunk, and on teh warrenty and maintenance book.

they should all match.

Was the mileage report for 33k back in 1991? Could be a carfax error or the PO didn't keep the car registered therefore no information as far as mileage.

Well the car is registered right now in NH and has 128k miles

I looked at the car today, I'm not really worried.. it is absolutely incredible, especially for the price.

CarFax is by no means perfect and missing information is fairly common. Also, some States do not record mileage after a vehicle is some number of years old. For example in Minnesota they stop the odometer statements on titles after the vehicle is 10 years old. They won't even record it if you ask them to if you have a low mileage car.

The time to start getting concerned by a CarFax report is when they report something that you didn't know about like a salvage title, excessive mileage reported from 10 years ago, etc.
