thinking of selling the 944

I am thinking of selling my 944. i have had the belts, rollers and bearings replaced in the timing belt, new fan switch, and the motor mounts. the only problem is i don't have the money to replace the ring and pinion. it has sat in the garage for 7 months now. it runs good, but i would rather see it on the road and taken care of than sitting in my garage wasting away. what would be a fair asking price? the body is in good shape, with a couple of small dents, paint is decent and interior is good with a few minor problems. everything else works on it as far as i know seeing i have not driven it in a while. I know own a new srt-4 (no, it is not riced out) so i won't go through not having a good sports car/sedan. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sell the 77 and get the ring and buy a used transmission.

Exactly what Hugh said is the thing to do, there's no point restoring a '77 924.
Broken 944s are worth $500.

You'll make more money parting it out, but the best choice would be to just get a used tranny.

reasonable asking price for an early 944 with a blown tranny is going to vary but on average it'll probably be around $500-$1000. Unfortunately selling the '77 924 probably won't get you enough money to buy another 944 tranny unless there is something really special about it. Keep an eye on ebay and this board, I'm sure you can find another 944 tranny cheap bolt it up and get at least another grand for the car.

Correct me if I am wrong, but anything 85.5+ gets the speedo information from the trannie, and anything before gets it from the left front wheel. And the 968 goes back to the wheel?

legion you're right.
Franks you have to have a late tranny (85.5+) or else your speedo won't work.
