Can be done without a lift, and without an engine hoist, but you need to support your engine, that is, if you would like to keep your ribs
![]() Best bet is to put the car up on jack stands, preferably about 1-2' in the air, give yourself lots of room to work. They make bars to go across your strut towers to support your engine, but I just use a 4x4" post, and wrap some chain around it. You will need to drop the crossmember in the front to change them, and also unbolt the inside edge of the control arms, so unless you are very careful, you will need an alignment afterwards (even if you are careful, it's always a good idea). Shop time will probably be around 5-7 hours, without knowing the exact number for sure. I would reccomend you do it yourself. It's not that bad of a job. To see all that is entailed, check out clark's garage www.clarks-garage.com

And have fun with the nuts. My motor mounts had collapsed and I could hardly get a wrench in there. Open end wrench and cracking them loose was a real challenge.
I couldn't seem to fit the new motor mounts in until I let the control arms totally free and pried down the crossmember. So I'm pretty bad out of alignment even though I scribed marks. I probably should get new camber plates and bushings for the A-arms before the alignment. |

Later models are much easier to keep the castor than the early models.

We did mine on the 924S in under 45 minutes. front of car on jack stands, and motorcycle jack on the oil pan (with block of wood) to lift the engine up enough (a inch or 2) to get the the mount bolts. Makes repositioning the new mounts and engine on top very easy.
Get the alignment- you'll save on the tires you waste and enjoy driving much more.
