caliper questions

Hello all,

Am removing the calipers from all four wheels for bead-blasting - powdercoating, & a rebuild.

A) I should remove all of the brake fluid before removing calipers right?

B) Does anyone know what size socket I need for the 2 bolts that holds each caliper on? 13/16 fits, but I am sure the appropriate metric will work better.

C) Will leaving my brake system standing without fluid for a period of time harm anything?

Thanks,

GHEN

It would be good to cap your lines with fluid out, keeps stuff like moisture out. You could pretty well empty them by either opening the bleeders & pumping the pedal or taking the hoses loose leeting them drain & pump a couple of times.

Sounds like socket is 20 or 21 mm.

I would just remove them and plug the line with the FLUID in, This way no moisture/dust will get in, also with the fluid in it will keep the seal in the master in good condition. When you install the new calipers, bleed all the old fluid out and replace it.

That sounds like the best solution. How would you plug the lines?

Well, you could pinch off the soft lines with some vice grips, just be careful not to damage the lines

The bolts are 19mm.
Sounds like a good time to rebuild them as well. :)
