If you see a vented nose panel with the OE vents in it 99% sure it is an OE part from a 931.

You can get them in fiberglass and carbon fiber from all the normal places. What they do for vents I do not know. I have yet to find a place that sells replica vents like the OE ones.

Moonboy...I picked up a 951 under bumper to check fitment with the CGT nose...no go. To wide and sits right in line with the lights on the CGT nose. I am working on a suitable unit to work with the CGT parts. I am actually reproducing the CGT kit along with others but that is a different story altogether.

If you are talking about the black plastic vent pieces themselves, they have a part number and can still be ordered. I had one bad one on the last 931 header panel, and I pulled the part# off of one of the good ones and ordered a replacement and a few extras from Sunset Porsche (that was about 2 years back). They were cheap, from what I can remember it was lest than $10 each.

The real trick, of course, is that if you cut a header panel in a manner similar to a factory 931 panel, is making the little tabs on the backside for the vents to bolt to, and replicating the nice rolled lips on the cut-out areas. Most home-job copies of those panels have just black mesh behind the holes with no lip. It looks "OK" from a distance, but not close up.

Tifo, that is fine for the homemade header panel, however I was refering to the glass and carbon ones.

I have an OE panel on my NA 924 that was retro fitted by the dealer back in '78 so I guess my question is...ZDo the panels from GTR, AIR, and IFC have the tabs molded into them?

I wish that one of them would make a 931-esque vented panel for the 951 or 944S2. If it had the tabs, and took the stock black grilles, I would buy it in a heartbeat.

The above header panel was made by cutting out the vented section from a 931 panel and grafting it into the 951 header panel. I do have a spare 931 header panel now, I am contemplating doing this if I can source a spare 951 header panel to play around with (don't want to mess up the good one that is on the car if I botch it up).

You could sell me your spare 931 nose panel and that would drop right in with my AIR 951 cover and *correct* light bezels and fenders! Perfect! That look is awesome! I never thought of doing this - well, there you go - you're dreaming up more Club Sport stuff all the time.

Better yet, Jeremy could you make a 100% size pattern of your 931 vents (with dimensions) on paper, or with a digital camera (and ruler) and or an illustrator EPS file? I have a spare 944 NA nose panel that I'd like to perform this mod too. I realize that it won't have the rolled lips, factory grilles, etc. I just need actual dimensions. This would be very uber kewl, thanks.

The distance between each vent: 1.5cm
The distance from the bottom of the panel face to the vent: 1.5cm

We need a diagram for the other pertinent measurements.

A = 5.5cm
B = 26cm
C = 20.5cm
D = 20cm

I don't have the measurement for the vents themselves handy, as I am at work. But honestly.................the best thing to do is to order the 4 plastic vents from Sunset or other supplier, then cut the holes to fit, attempting to replicate the outside measurements above.

The measurement of the holes on the factory piece is a bit dodgy due to the holes being rolled and tapered on the inside.

Note that the above measurements of an actual 931 panel and they transfer just fine to an N/A panel. However, for those that have a 951, the measurements will not work (I had someone on Rennlist, named "NZ951" ("952" here on this BBS, thankfully he is banned here), slag me for that, even though I told him up front when I measured this for him last year that the 951 panel is different, more curved, and he would need to interpolate those measurements..............)

Dumb queston here: Someone in this thread or another one about vented nose panels mentioned you can still order the little grills for the 931 panel from Porsche.

If the is true, then why couldn't you just order up the regulation number of them and use them as a pattern to layout where to Dremel out holes in your stock nose panel, prime, paint and viola! A 931 vented nose panel...or am I missing some important step here?

I think that the 931 factory nose panel four holes are pressed into the sheet metal with rounded edges curling in towards the engine. You could order the four grilles and dremel out four holes on a stock 944 header panel based on the above info. But, the grilles might not fit properly against a direct flat cut and really are designed to fit against a rounded edge instead. A fiberglass version header panel from AIR or GT racing might have the rounded edges moulded in? Comments?

Yeah, you can still get the 931 vents new (924 Turbo). They are $15 each ($60 set). I got mine from ***********.com, thay had some anyway.

I also have a used set for sale if someone is interested?

Does anyone have a part number for actual panel?

Okay, so that makes it harder, but why couldn't you braze on a continuous wire - appropriately sized - around the inner perimeter of each hole?

This wouldn't be any harder than the "cut-to-fit, bend-to-suit, paint-to-match" approach for the fiberglass part. Plus, it would be all metal and much easier..I think.

That might work! Good idea Dan. I do have a spare 944 8v'er header panel. Although, I haven't decided to go ahead with this project or not, more important items to tend to...

Leaky oil pan gasket, weepy PS system high pressure hose, PS rack needs attention and my upper balance shaft belt inner seal leaks. Belts are due as well. I might pull the engine and reseal the whole enchilada. Oh, all brake rotors need replacing but, I do have new Zimmerman cross drilled sport rotors, just need to do swap these. Suspension bushings are toast and shocks really need updating to Koni Sports. Lots to do.

On the other hand, my new (electric converted) "manual" targa roof rocks! the new Amethyst met. paint job is tits, a newly installed (tonight) speedometer cable will keep me in check and my replacement Blaupunkt Reno SQR46 radio sounds the bomb. One thing at a time.
