Tell me more. I missed that thread if you posted about it. I have worked on my sunroof over and over and I am really tired of it not working. Right now the gears are shot...again.... so it starts to lift above 60 MPH or so.

Someone posted before about a sure fire way to adjust the limit switches more easily. Can someone chime in with the best way possible. And I would still like to hear more about this manual conversion.

For the manual roof conversion, you simply pull the hardware in the roof and just replace the latches with the manual ones.
1. You need to take off the cover over the panel behind the sunroof.
2. You then cut the liner under that cover about 3 inches on either side - just enough to get to the screws for the lifting arms.
3. Remove the lifting arms - I just cut the cables going to them on mine. Then, remove the motor from the trunk area.
4. Now, take off the roof, take off the 2 screws holding on the latch mechanism at the rear of the roof. Pull these out and replace them with these:

Now, you can easily remove your sunroof and not worry about all the problems it may have given you.http://www.huntel.net/nprkirk/6876a.jpg

You couldn't have said it better! My long winded babble story is too detailed. I just can't say how much better this targa roof is now than the original electric version.

Ok, obligitory *On-Topic* content... the manual targa roof conversion in combination with any new front nose conversion (my AIR 951 nose for example) will put more smiles on your face than anything else!

I can't convert my 85.5 roof to manual, due to the fact that the top loop on my roll bar is right where the manual latch mechanisms would be, thus making it impossible to open and close the sun roof. So.......that is one of the few remaining "power" items that will remain in my car. :(

Der Rennwagen 03-15-2005 06:23 AM

Tifo,

Do you have a photo of where your roll bar is? There's gotta be a way to make your club sport FULL manual !!!!

[edit] You guys, we *should* take this over to this thread >>

Ryan, Any chance you can post that picture for me directly? I am firewalled out of being able to open Ebay at work.

Ask Tifo, he's friends with the car's previous owner and he'd have more info on the suspension than I have at the moment. At present, the car and all its paperwork are in Ohio waiting for me to get a place here in WA that has a garage.

Only the front is different, the rear just has the torsion bars adjusted. The front in those pictures is lacking an adjustable collar on the shocks which makes it sit very low. The collar has since been put back on to bring the ride-height up a little. The springs are heavier-duty Weltmeisters.

Ummm......yea.:D

BTW.......did you know that sprawling on the hood leaves a mark? Don't ask how I know this, just believe.

holy ***** thats beautiful! a refreshing change from all the blacks and reds

Will a vented 931 front fit a 86 951? i'm thinking of getting one to send cool air to my intercooler

Der Rennwagen 06-14-2005 12:40 PM

Thanks for the kudos on the color. I have always wanted a different color and thought that switching from the orig. Mahogany Brown to Amethyst Met. would be kewl and not be glaringly shocking when you open the hood. Paint came out very nice. Here is a shot of me actually using my 944 the way it was designed.

Tifo would the expert on the 931 nose panel fitting or not. I don't think so though as the angle won't match that of the 951 fenders? I think that it's a little steeper on the 931/944 NA version. Although, you could put the AIR nose and 944 NA AIR fiberglass fenders on your 951, then the 931 nose panel will fit. Haa, that would be a good one. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1118781551.jpg

This is the best NA front end.

Hot damn, that dude needs some bigger sways! Almost as much tilt as my 914 ... completely without sways!

Der Rennwagen 06-16-2005 05:56 PM

Yes, I have them, M404 23.5mm up front and 18mm in the rear. Were they connected - I don't know, are the bushings shot - heck yeah! The 2004 Subaru WRX STI drivers were stunned when I was only 0.79 sec slower than their fastest time. Not bad for 20+ year old sway bars!

Thompson, I thought I was the only one using that setup, lots a lean but very neutral.

Der Rennwagen 06-17-2005 06:44 AM

I just got my Bilstein HDs in. Collecting parts, still need upper strut mounts. The Bilsteins should help out a little bit. I do like the sway and neutral feel.

pokey 06-17-2005 04:15 PM

I'd rather have roll and grip than flat and slide, any day.

ebattino 06-23-2005 07:18 PM

Ok everyone...so I'm kind of an idiot and I need some help...

Could somebody please help me out by telling me the best way to remove the header panel from the front of my 85.5 944 NA?

Thanks!

Blackfoot 06-23-2005 08:30 PM

The following intructions apply to the 951, but they may be helpful for the na as well:
