My mechanic told me it was going when I first bought the car, and I drove it till it wouldn't go into gear anymore.
idk, between school and delivering I made it 10k miles with out any problems. However I don't think the shop adjusted the clutch right, the pedal feels funky. It grabs super low but the pedal doesn't feel like it can go all the way to the floor. I'm gonna prob take it in tomorrow if it doesn't feel better.

You should be proud of your car. I can't believe there are cars out there with these still in them.

Anyone know off the top of their head which year and model were these rubber-centered clutches phased out? (They were phased out by the end of the series, right?)

When I was working on the line (I started in 87) they were already phasing them out. All replacements were spring loaded. I'm guessing that they started installing them from factory in 87, but I'm not 100%.

my 90 has the rubber center.... It has slop in the drivetrain too....also a little chatter every now and then...... Im saveing for the clutch job and im gonna replace it with a spring clutch....... I was told that drive a car with the rubber center separated would ruin the flywheel on the car....and also damage the transmission....... I drive mine very easy and baby the clutch i have never even got to go thru th gears hard with it..... Im afraid to do any damage that might cost a small fortune to fix.....

The two I own had +130K miles on them (original rubber center)
Both were worn but had not exploded yet............ ![]() There really is nothing wrong with the rubber centered clutches. They are smoother and quieter..........age causes the rubber to break down and if you expect a disc to last more than 15+ years you asking to much. The spring centered clutches have there own issues as well with the small springs breaking. I have seen 3 cars (<100K) spring centered with cracked springs. ............ Armando ? Did you say you worked on the LINE building these cars ??? If thats the case I would be REALLY interested in hearing the build process of this series.
