Shop time estimates

Hey, all,

At an experienced Porsche shop, about how many hours do you think it would take to:

1. replace power steering rack with a rebuilt unit?

2. timing belts, front engine reseal, water pump replacement?

Just trying to ballpark the estimate I got. I trust the shop (it's been recommended on enough message boards), just wanted to compare notes.

Cool, then everything's on the mark.

Took the car to RPM.

There were some great looking 911's in various states of dissasembly there. And a beautiful 86 (?) 944. And a slightly less pretty but still beautiful blue 944. Oh, and a c4 vette.

RPM is a great shop. Stan used to work at Intersport and split in the mid 90s to start his own shop with Bill. They were great to deal with when I took my car in there (and probably happy with the $4000 repair bill...)

My shop quoted $1100 for just a timing belt/water pump replacement alone. I'm not sure if I'll tackle that one myself or not.

Seems a little high... I paid a little under $500 without a waterpump, IIRC.

I paid for 5.75 hours of labor to do this job (incl. roller replacement) + replace a fuel filter (didn't add much time) in January 2004.
