Need help with my daily driver

I have a 91 accord w 195k it is a great car but as of late the clutch seems to be going. I am a graduating from college in 2 weeks and need to drive her from Iowa to NH!!

Here is the problem The clutch grabbs very high and has since I bought the car with 175k it is the origional clutch but has never been launched. The weird thing is that it slipps under hard accell in 4th and 5th, but some days worse than others. On a bad day I have a hard time accelerating under 3/4 throttle in 4th and 1/2 in 5th at around 70mph, with a little slipping in 2nd and 3rd.

on a good day!! 2nd and 3rd are fine 4th only slips a tiny bit under full throttle and 5th slips only at 2/3 throttle.

I don't know much about clutches but got a quote to replace with labor for around 700. I am not planning on keeping this car much longer and would love to temp fix it and limp around for a while until I have enough for a 951.

Is there any kind of adjustment that will help me squeeze the last bit of life out of my trusty Accord?

sorry this is not a porsche question!!!

That car has a hydraulic master and slave for the clutch, so there is no adjustment you can do. You can bleed the line, in hopes that there's air causing the slippage, but likely it's simply the clutch in need of replacement, which there is no 'band-aid' for.

Being a FWD car, it's a PITA, but I'm sure the parts alone are no more than $200, if you've got a weekend to kill and some tools you can do the job yourself.

how much is involved with installing a new clutch? I do have a bunch of tools but I only have a jack and some stands. Is it something I can do without a lift? Also is it something I can do considering that I have never done anything other than change my oil and rotate my tires and minor exhaust work? I am pretty good mechanicaly but have very little experience. Any coaching or advice is welcome!!!!

Consider that you have to pull the halfshafts, and the tranny to get to it. I don't know whether you'd have to totally remove the tranny from the engine bay, and what work that might require. Sometimes there's enough room to unbolt the tranny and slide it out of the way enough to get to the clutch assembly.

I'd do like Mambodave suggested, and get several estimates. Check the phone book for some of the smaller shops that specialize in Hondas, as those are the guys that are usually the most 'versed' in doing the job, and can likely get you in and out rather quickly and at a decent price. Also check some transmission shops, those shops usually can do R&R's pretty quickly, and generally don't charge as much nor take as long as the dealership might.
