Will OEM Boxster rims (16 inch) fit an '87 944?

Actually, I dont belive they do. The laste offset cars 87 ,88 have a clearence issue with the dustcap. The two sets that have this problem are Boxster and 964 16X6" fronts. The rears are fine. There are ways to make it work like spacers, but I sold the set I had because I diddnt like the way they fit, but go ahead and try it if you want because I may be wrong. I didnt try th boxster rims but they seemed the same as the 911 ones that I had.

Am looking at some on ebay for $500.. They are 16-x-something. Also looking at some 18" turbo twists for around the same price, tho I don't believe N/As came with 18" as a stock option, right? Would like to not have to beef up the rest of the suspension to compensate at this time..

You can grind down the hub dust caps in order to have clearance for the Boxster wheels.

That said, IIRC, the stock wheels on 944's were at least 7 inches wide. (In my case: the fronts are 7Jx16, and the rears are 8J x 16). The Boxster fronts are 6J x 16, which means you'd have to go with a skinnier front tire, which in turn will only amplify the understeer our cars already exhibit.

mine are boxter "s" 17's with about 5/16th spacers on the fronts.

7 1/2 fr, 9 rear.

Wow, that's a lot of work to get a set of Boxster wheels to fit. You really just need to grind the dustcap on the back side so that it fits. Some people have had the cap bottom out on the hub bearing cap. In that case, take the bearing cap off the car, heat up the center 2" circle 'til it's dark cherry red, smack it down 1/8" of an inch with a mallet and that's it! Wait 'til it cools before picking it up and re-installing. Hub cap should fit fine after that...

Seems like alot of work Danno but it had to be done for cosmetic reasons.

I moved the stock 3/4 inch spacer from the back to the front for looks only.

This was on an 83. The wheels fit with just the dustcap trim but didn't "look" right. Now they are perfect.

Best thing is that when I go to get new tires I will probably just get them on a set of used Boxster wheels like before...cheaper than new rubber. Work is done, now i can just enjoy it.
