help

The thermostat on my 951 blew today and i cant find it, where is it? Also i checked my timing belt today and its BAD, the belt barely even touches two of the rollers, and both rollers and water pump have play in them. btw the timing belt is original but the car only has 30,000 miles. I need to do this job now

The thermostat is located on the outlet of the water pump at the lower radiator hose-to-pump junction. You will need a snap-ring pliers to remove the thermostat

How does a thermostat "blow up"?

Water pump leaking???

Some of the smooth rollers are not supposed to touch the belts.

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

Um...it doesn't seem like the thermostat is your problem. If the water pump has play in it, that's your problem. You need a new water pump. Anyways, test the thermostat in a pot of boiling water with a thermometer, it should open at or around the temperature rating on it.

I don't believe the tensioner will work on the '86. It was originally designed for 87+, and I think it's very difficult to fit it onto an '86 somehow. Try looking for a tensioning tool.
