advice on rod bearings
I've got my personal car apart to replace the oil pan gasket, sway bar bushings, motor mounts, brake lines to SS etc. Whats the deal on changing the rod bearings? The car has 98K N\A and the oil pressure is nice in the normal range with out any knocking? Leave well enough alone or change them before a problem?

Change them. If you are already that far into the motor you might as well spend the $75 to get a new set of bearings and nuts. I'm almost positive you'll find the number 2 bearing is pretty worn already. The 944 is notorious for eating those bearings up. If you get to the point of hearing knocking you're already too late, the bearing has spun and damage has already happened.

At 98,000 miles, the engine is just broken in for street driving. for sustained high rpm use (racing), cross drill the crank now.

The bearings come in two sizes, standard and 0.25mm oversize. Most if not all are standard. Check size, buy and install. Problem over.
