Cruise Control Problem

Still shaking out a few remaining gremlins on my 1989 951. The cruise control does not operate and I was wondering what steps I can take to isolate and possibly solve the problem before adding it to my pro shop fix it list.

cruise control

I had a problem with my cruise control that drove me nuts. Initially, it would kick off sporadically, then eventually, I lost the cruise control altogether. To make a long story short, I replaced the speedometer cable and it solved the problem. It must have been sticking ever so slightly thus kicking off the cruise control.

Thanks Jet Wrench! I had already tried the Clarks Garage troubleshooting info and determined that the fix could involve expensive parts replacement. Glad to know there are other possible issues not previously considered.
