AC compressor
Has anyone here ever replaced their ac clutch bearing? Is this something that can be done with the compressor in the car? What tools are needed? Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks, TT

It was too cramped for me to do it on my car but that might have been because my puller is bulky. What I did is loosen the compressor so that it was sloped downward. That gave me room to use the puller without opening the refrigerant lines.

I think I answered this same question on "The Other Board" (RennList), but here goes:
Yes, it can be done, but you need to have a spanner wrench to hold the driven half of the clutch while you loosen the shaft nut. Look closely at the perimiter of the clutch hub. See four notches at 0, 90, 180, and 270? Those notches are for the spanner. Once you get that off, it's a piece of cake. However, as was previously posted, it's gonna be a tight fit with the compressor in the car. Hope you like snap rings. ;-) I did this just a couple of months ago. My 951's bearing was making an awful noise, so I dropped $20.00 + shipping on an "eBay" special, and ended up with a siezed compressor (Knew that going in) that had a perfect clutch, clutch coil, and bearing. Now the 951 is cool inside, and quiet outside. Word of caution here: If you decide to remove the compressor, get new O-Rings for the compressor manifold connections BEFORE you start the work.
