Storing Outside!

Well, some of you may know the troubles I have had with my 951 in the last year - I'v driven it exactly 180 wonderful miles. I need the garage space so it's gonna hang out outside for a while. Suggustions on car covers that will protect it from the sun, rain, keeping the paint from oxidizing to hell, keeping the tires 'fresh', gas treatments.....any other clues would be appreciated!

Garage
I would store it with a fuel tank of gas and the right amount of Sta-bil (sp?). This will keep the tank from forming rust inside. After you install the Sta-bi run the engine for a bit so it works it's way through the fuel system.

Pull the battery and keep it charged up

Pull the plugs and put a teaspoon of oil into each cylinder, reinsert the plugs

I have a heavy duty car cover which was made just for 944s. It fits like a glove and doesn't flap in the wind. Its soft on the inside. I usually only used it for my 83 to keep the dust off the car while it was in the garage but now it is being used on the 944S while it is outside. So far it has held up real well. I have had it for 8 years and there is no wear.

If you can put the car on jack stands and store the tires inside that would be best this way they don't flatspot or get beat up by UV rays.

I am sure there is more which can be done but can't think of it.

How long do you need to store it?

No worries, all tanks from '85.5 up are plastic.

I've left cars out side for several years and they started right up, just don't leave the battery hooked up.

If you do cover it up check occasionally for mold on the interior and uncover it on a nice day so it can get some air.
