im sort of confused about this topic, i know it is a good fail safe to get you a short distance in an emergency.
but what are you risks you are taking, i heard something about fuel lines bursting causing engine fires, if thats true, what else?

So long as the car is running there is no difference. Plug it in and leave it on 20 year old fuel lines and you might get a leak.
An easier field expidient method for a dead DME relay is to remove the cover, and wedge some folded up paper to force the contacts. Helluva lot asier then monkeying around shorting the pins with wire and all that.

Car won't keep running bt the Fuel Pump will.
Both are only a field expedient method to get home and replace the relay that should have been in your glove box.

Use pin #86 rather than #30. #86 is switched via the ignition. Gives some margin of protection. Still for $20 you should replace the DME relay.

As I've reported; I've only replaced mine ONE TIME in twenty years of ownership.
I wish a lot of things didn't wear out.
