Kind of bummed out.

Last week, my old 944 returned to the shop.

The paint is now peeling
the engine was driven while overheated (nipple broke off) Head gasket is gone, water pump siezed, timing belt worn down (thankfully not broken).
Some acidic chemical was used to clean the fuchs - they look like they have leprosy now

owners father towed it in - attached the towing strap to the sway bar, which was popped out of the bushings.

In a period of a few short months, she exceeded what she paid me for the car in repairs.

Definitely sucks to hear. I'm assuming its a given that because it was your car it was in real solid shape when sold.

Was it the waterpump seizing that caused the massive cooling system failure? Or the nipple breaking off the radiator hose?

Headgasket, waterpump, timing belt... Damn... When these cars fail they sure do it with flair.

That's it.

I'm never selling mine. I'd MUCH rather kill it myself that see some hapless kid do it.

I will sell mine the second I can afford a nice (most likely used) Cayman S. Until then, not a chance.

Mmm Cayman..... looks promising...

Don't forget folks - for a price, anything can be sold. If someone offers me $10k for my 944S2, it'd be gone in a heartbeat! Any takers?

I know the feeling! i sold my plymoth duster to somebody near me. i spent a few years restoring and souping up that car.
everytime i seen it after i sold it to him there was another dent or scratch on it. I heard he blew the motor 2 weeks after i sold it to him. He finally finished it off by puttin it into the side of a city bus. It broke my heart.

Yeah, thats a bummer...

I know what you mean, I sold a cool old RX-7 to a buddy who pretty much trashed it out in no time flat, it was hard to see...

I don't let anyone eat or smoke in my cars...

He had a buildup of trash in it 4-6" deep in no time!
UGH!

Yeah, I sold my RX-7 to my cousin to buy my 944.

Then I watched it wear out and finally end up in a wrecking yard. He's a great guy without enough money at the time to look after the car, but it sure hurt to see my Rex treated like that. I, too, would rather kill my own 944 than watch someone else drive it into the ground.

Well, I guess i would take a Cayman if someone forced it on me

I guess I just would rather not know what happens to my 944 if I ever decide to sell it...

Look at it this way. There is much to be desired about a car that you get paid for twice,three,.....X! Not only did you sell it, it keeps coming back paying you more money!

You are BRILLIANT!

Considering that my '84 is probably only going to bring $2000 I have been thinking of selling it to one of the local pelicanhead youngins for $1000 if/when I decide to sell... at least I know that they would take care of it.

Used Boxsters are looking real nice, sat in one at the Ventura car show and talked with an owner. Now I just have to save up and justify dropping $20K on a toy!

It could happen!

I put over 10K into a 84 VW Rabbit GTi, that I used for auto x and some hill climbs. I sold it to a friend who decided to take my (his) very, very, low GTi with lots of fancy suspension parts, rebuilt engine, and LSD trans to a Rally Cross. He rolled it on his first run. The front motor mount punctured the block. One front shock and one rear shock were bent, and one of the axles was driven into the trans. It hurt my feelings more then it hurt his pocketbook. We are still friends, but I am not selling him anymore cars that I love.

Sorry to hear that, man. I feel for ya.

I was considering selling mine some time ago and there were a few close friends whom I know would snap it right up. But by judging how they treat their current cars (like moving trash heaps) there's no way.

Shame on the new owner of your old ride. I'd even tell him as much

Let me know when that happens. Your profile can read;
87 944S burned and sold to speedracing944
86 951 also sold to speedracing944
