broken boost controller

My boost controller broke and i realized ive been driving on some crazy amount of boost which i didnt realize because i just associated the gain in power with the cooler weather. I just checked it today and i turned that thing down ALOT to get it to reach under 2 bar. My guage was always near 2bar so i never thought nothing of it. Do you guys think i did any serious damage that hasent showed yet or if i did it wouldve just happened right away. i always worry about these things so just give me some peace of mind

well i just changed the oil which was well worn and the boost is back on the guage. It feels alot smoother now so im a little less worried. When i changed the oil there was very little material stuck on the magnet but there none the less. Hopefully everything will be fine and im gonna order a boost controller from a reputable vendor this time.

The only concern really is the head gasket at this point.

She is running fine so you may have dodged a bullet.

Also just a general question about boost controlers, was it normal that on mine you only have to turn the knob a hair to get from spring pressure to almost 1 bar? or are all boost controllers work like that with a single port wg? I think im gonna buy the accuboost for my next one, any suggestions?

One bar, on the stock guage, is atmospheric pressure and indicates zero boost (anything below one bar is manifold vacuum).

Ahh. In that case, yeah, faulty MBC. It definitely should be tune-able easily to boost levels below 1.0 bar above atmospheric.

What do you mean by "above spring pressure"?

the wg spring is supposed to give you 1.2 bar or so im under the impression. If i open the knob a hair from full boost it goes to a little over 1 bar and stays there all the way to completely open.

Yup, your MBC is dead. It's either open full or closed full and you don't have a zone in-between.
