Cool What Can I Do?

Hello my name is Jon and my parents just bought me a Porsche 924S. It has 66,000 miles and EVERYTHING in it is original! I LOVE it. Anyway, you see I live in a small town and nobody has a clue about them, and I'm the only one with a Porsche in the whole town. I want to make an impression instead of poeple laughing when you say it has a 4-cyl.

Well at my school we have to do a project to graduate and I'm going to do it on my car. I just need ideas on what to do. While doing things I'd love to increase performance in everything- as long as i can afford it.

If anyone could give me ideas for this I'd appreciate it. I want to blow the doors off their Cavaliers, Neons, and Escorts on my way home from school. Thanks

liljon aka "You Don't Have A Porsche!"

simple answer?
on a respectable budget, you wont "blow the doors off their cavaliers, neons, and escorts"... no matter what u do... you dont "make an impression" in a 924/944 porsche with speed or power.. you make it with style.

You want to blow their doors off? It won't happen in a straight line without spending a LOT of time AND MONEY, but it will happen the moment the race takes a turn or two. These cars are all about the handling.

i agree pokey.

this car will not ever be "fast", no matter what you do to it... but lets hear your budget anyway.. who knows maybe you're made of money!

are you good with a wrench? comfortable with engine swaps? suspension work?

You could supercharge it. Do a search for "homemade supercharger" on here. Maybe do a propane conversion so you can run goobs of boost without lowering the CR. It's an interesting thread.

interesting, albeit still in the VERY preliminary stages of being a practical consumer choice...

you could always do an engine swap (does a chev small block still fit in the 924? or....? someone help me out here).... replace the suspension.... get bigger swaybars (although those last couple of points wont really help you with speed)...

you, just like every other person around here, are going to get the crude notion that no - you cant make this car "fast"...

you could always sell it, and put that money plus the 2k towards buying a turbo....

I just want to be able to beat a neon or cavalier. It doesnt have to be the fastest car in the country and I would like to make it handle better.

the car already handles like a dream... but you could increase the size of the swaybars on it... really simple job, and very cheap (relatively)...

i have no idea what you could do for 2 grand to get those kinds of results...

Do you want to beat them on the drag strip or on a road course? On a road course, all you need to do is drive and you'll beet them hands down without ever modifying anything. Quick check, did you get any maintenance records when you got the car? If so, when were the timing and balance belts done? If you don't know, do them NOW.

Could I put a 944 turbo system on my 924S it is the same engine and everything, anybody know?

The $2,000 was an estimate.

Nothing was ever replaced exept battery and plugs... thats about it. It does vibrate badly till its warm could that be timing belt or just needs a minor tune up?

Don't get into asking that. You will get flamed. Yes, it can be done. It is just VERY expensive, and a lot more needs to be done to make it right.
