Question Rear sway bar?

hello,
can i easily upgrade my 14mm rear sway bar to a 18 or 20mm 951 rear sway bar? if so, for the a combo, what would be a suitable sized front sway bar?

i have an '80 924 turbo with early style 924 front sway bar and pre 1985.5 style 924/ 944 style rear sway bar.

TIA!

Yup, everything bolts right in.

You might need new hanger bushings, depending on how much bigger you want to go

There is no factory 20mm bar, your choices for rear bars are 14mm, 16mm, 18mm and a 19mm adjustable bar.

I would base my decision on the front bar based on what the factory used. So with an 18mm bar i would stick with the following front sizes,

23mm
24mm
25.1mm
25.5mm

You should select which one based on your preference. I would personally go with a 25.1mm front or 18mm rear. That is the same setup used on the later '87+ 944 Turbos. Those are all the front sizes that the factory used with a 18mm bar. You can see a indepth chart here,

Could be aftermarket. I have a rear bar that (I think) is aftermarket... measures 19mm across.

The front-rear bias will affect the oversteer/understeer characteristics on your car. That being said, I am running a 26.8mm front bar with the 19mm rear and don't notice any unwanted understeer. Might make itself seen on-track, however...

The only 19mm bars from the factory were 3-way adjustable. You can tell from the 3 mounting holes on the bars endlinks. You need to take into consideration the bar is painted with black paint. That may throw off your measurements slightly.

To my knowledge there is no aftermarket 19mm bar. Aftermarket sizes start at about the same size as the smallest front stock diameter bars... 22mm! A rear bar that large will need to be offset by the huge aftermarket sizes of a 30+mm front bar.
