Question Radiator Fan-Always On: What's the Fix?

I have a radiator fan that is on whenever the ignition/engine is on. What is the potential cause? I thought I'd read a bad sensor could cause this somewhere...any ideas?

Thanks.

yup.. one fan is supposed to come on whenever the key is in the 'on' position, or the engine is running.... the other fan kicks on for the AC, or if the temp gets to be too hot..

I believe that's all true... someone will jump in and maul me i'm sure if i'm incorrect. lol

I'm working on an overheating problem and noticed a few things. If I turn my air on, both fans come on always. Second- When my temp gauge hits the second bar, both fans come on. This is contrary to my other cars were one is dedicated to the engine temp and the other is for the A/C. What the!!?

I might be wrong but I thought if the fan was constantly on that you have a bad thermo switch? They're really easy to change out. It sounds like hpaulb has got the lower temp thermo switch in his car. I would go with the 92* I believe it is which is the 3rd bar on the temp gauge. My main fan comes on when the car gets too hot and the a/c fan comes on when I turn on the a/c. That's the way it works on my 84 anyways.

first of all, i only have 1 fan connected... the drivers side fan.. the other one has all the blades broken off - got a replacement.. just need to find the time to swap it out.

the fan comes on and runs when the car is on.... and will speed up to it's faster speed when the car gets too hot.... when u turn the car off the can slows down again until the temp drops, then it shuts off entirely.
