Sweet! You and your car are an inspiration. Another argument at just how ahead of it's time this car design truly was.

Tim,
No man, just forgot to update my info. I'm settling into the seasons of the East Coast here in Virginia. I try to keep up with the local AX scene, but the Navy has me in and out for the next year or so. How are things out West. I hope the Spec Racing is coming along.

Mr. Partida,
Thanks for asking. The 944 spec scene is growing too fast for me to memorize all the new guys!
We're trying to get 944 spec groups started on the East Coast, too. If you're near a NASA chapter, post to their website, go to their races, etc. talk it up, ok? We hope to have enough cars to have a National runoff in NASA soon.

The Tach is stock (elec), but I'll have to hook the late model speedo pick-up to the tranny when I finish.

What I learned, I read from pdf Tech manual electrical section -87 944's and from taking a part a spare one I got from a junkyard. I could have made mistakes but this is what I did to get mine to work.

My 924S VDO Tach doesn't have the MPG so I didn't have to worry about the hall sensor signal from the speedo meter on Clutch housing (but I think you could pull that off the DME Harness splice (I think DME 8 (Green) and 27 (Black). Didn't like the upshift light so pulled the bulb on that (although you can pull the Square 2 pin by DME to disable). Also requires signal from Speedo signal.

Tachs Pins:
1- {Black/Yellow Engine} Speed (ignition) wants switched +12V so I jumped it cause I was only getting like 7V for ? reason
2- {Green or Green/Yellow} Injection Signal (wave) (internal connection to HG)
3- {Gray/Blue} Speedo Hall sensor (wave signal)
4- {Gnd Blue/Yellow} Coolant Temp gauge is feed from this pin (I only have a Engine Temp Gauge for now)
5- {Black Switched} +12V Also had to jump, was getting 0V (is internal connection to H+)
6- {Green} Ignition pulse (neg side of coil) Ran new green wire from the 14 pin plug (front driver side firewall) from the one pin (white on 968) to the Tach cause I wasn’t getting the wave signal. Don't Cut old wire! Just splice in a new one on Firewall side of plug pin 1.

Speedometer to Tach:
HG {Green/Red} Hall sensor Pulse (Square wave 1-6 Volts generated by Hall effect on Front left wheel spinning)
H+ {Black Switched} 12V supplied jump on pin 5 and internal VDO connection to H+

I have the old cable coming from the left front wheel and hall sensor for the speedometer so I didn't have to deal with one from the Transmission. I didn't see a plug on the my 968 6speed Tranny anyway, but I remember seeing the 2 DME Pins for it.

I believe it would work basically the same thoe. You would run/splice into the wires from the HG and H+ (loop) to your two pins on the Tranny Speedo. I think it basically provide a voltage potential that is Oscillated by Rev Speed of Axel Gear.

Wow, very nice job. I'd put a shield around your filter to avoid heat from the radiator, as motors like cold air a lot better.

That car is going to put a FROWN on someone's face, ha ha, when they try to give you a run. I have a S2 and it runs like a bear, but nowhere as fast as what you have.

regards, P

I'm surprised you aren't using a 968 tranny.

pics of spare wheel well modification

Congratulations, this is a great effort!

Do you have any pics available of the modified spare wheel well, from above and below? And any other pics of the 968 tranny in place? I'm thinking of putting a 968 tranny in my 924 Turbo.

Thanks.
