1991 S4 3,0 l 172KW
I have not found any posts of an S4. This was advertised recently with the details mentioned. Is there such a beast as an S4 and how does it differ from an S2?

The only S4 I know of is a 928 S4.
There was never a 944 S4. That pic is of a S2/turbo cabriolet.

There was no 944 S4
The 968 was originally named the 944 S3, but i don't think any were ever produced with that name. Maybe a few prototypes, but certainly nothing that was ever sold to the public. The Porsche marketing department eventually decided that there were enough changes to the model to give it a new designation. In addition, sales of the 944 were poor, and this also helped the 968 "distance itself" from the it's predecessor.
