Me - 1 / Ice - 0

Anyone in CT (and maybe the whole northeast) probably had to chisel their car out of the freezing rain / ice / snow from this weekend. My entire car was encased in ice, especially after getting a nasty cold and not driving or shovelling out for a few days.

When i started the car this morning, it shook *violently* for about 20 secs, then eased up, although it idled as high as I've ever seen it, about 1600RPM, even once reaching operating temp, until I started driving.

Not so much concerned with the RPM idle, but I'm looking for some thoughts as to the cause / effect / fix for the seizure the car had on startup.

This is probably not likely, but easy to check. My 87 is doing the same thing as yours but it has a really wierd problem I think. I found that when I take off the vacuum line connecting the fuel pressure regulator and damper to the air flow valve, there was gas in the vacuum line and running a steady stream of gas into the intake manifold. After I shut the car off, the fuel pressure is still in the lines and it is filling the intake manifold with gas which is running into the rubber J boot and sitting there until the engine is started again which makes it run extremely rich for a while until the excess gas is burnt and even a little rich as it runs down the road, however after it's warmed up, it can handle the extra gas. To check this, you can trace the vacuum line coming from the fuel pressure regulator and then right after you shut the engine off, remove the vacuum line from the air control valve and see if gas is running out the vacuum line. But it sounds like it was getting excessive gas from somewhere right after it started. Good Luck.
