Late cylinder head and cam on early 944

Can a late modle Cylinder head and cam of a 85.5 944 fit on the early 83, 84, and 85 model 944's. If atleast the cam will work it wil be great that way i can replace my ticking lifter's inexpensivly and if the head fit's too then might asw welll save some time and money rebuilding my current one.

Thanks
Jaime

PS: the only difference that i noticed on the early head was the temp head sensor 2-wires so im thinking it will not fit? as my early only has single wire to the head temp sensor

Yes, it will fit, you just have to swap sensors

Thought the temp sensors are on the block?

Later 944 cams have a bit longer lift on the exhaust and a few more horses as a result.

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

Depends if you have done this before. Have to take off the intake and exhaust. Pull the plugs on the cam housing to get to the cam housing bolts. Timing belt.

Why is the car in the junk yard? If the engine is intact by the whole thing.

well i have returned i didnt have enuff time and the lil plugs on the cam werent comming off i tried an allen socket and a 6 point socket set that i had and they just didn't fit all that great and almost striped. That cam housing is giving me problems

What do you guys use?

I had the intake manifold off fuel rail is off. I forgot about the exaust.

I forgot to look at the milage it had but it's in the junk yard because the whoel frond side panel on drivers side was riped off and the Aluminum a-arm was just craked in half and the drivers door didnt want to open up all the way. Some of it was picked at but It' looked like it was in realy good condition i couldent find any sighns of a leak anywhere on the engine it was dusty but no oil anywhere the aluminum block still is shiney. Timing belt still has covers on it.. A/c and Alternator and AFM were the only things that were taken off.

I walked away with the maff and i took the relay that said " DME relay"

What's the trick to get the cam housing?

your going to need some allen wrenches or hex head sockets to get the cam tower off, so you can get to the head bolts. I think its 6mm

Isn't there a oil passage valve issue. The early one did not have it?

Well pulling off a head was sure a learning expierence, Broke a few bolts and drilled them out. Broke and bent a few tools. And relaized Penitrating oil really works but only if you let it sit for an hour or more.

Story on the head and cam. The head had a new head gasket and exaust gasget's and the Top of the head had Permenant marker Number labels Head looks like it ws rebuilt but i'm no mechanic. All valves Looked clean on exhast and intake all of them looked to fit correctly and only 1 set of vavles had carbon build up the rest just were just black. So far it look's like a steal
